phew i do try to keep up with this, but dont quite manage it, what with snow days, half term and general life!!! But i have been working away as you can tell with the new cakes, but the exciting news is hopefully i will be working for a hotel and commissioned to do all there cakes, we are working on the prices, ideas etc.. .of how this is going to work, but with two phone calls for request of quotes in a week i am pretty positive that this will work out.
Fingers crossed.
This is where i an thankful that i have my own work room as i can bake in the evening without it affecting the family, and still fit in my other commissioned work, i will keep you posted.
At the moment i have three cakes baking in the oven, and after this going to prep some of the decorations.
Can't wait as it smells delicious, all vanilla cakes, as earlier in the week they were all chocolate, i can't belive it is Thursday and i have already done four orders this week, one a request from India! To be delivered here in Cambridge.
Right got to go

I can't believe we are in 2009, happy new year, i don't even know if anyone reads this.
I am happy with the way the last financial year is going, a bit concerned with the credit crunch and how it will affect me, but my overheads are minimal and i have a few orders for the future and enquires coming in, can't really ask for more than that. Although there is no way i can see a life without making cakes.
I have got a wedding and birthday cake to do this week, to settle back in to the routine of children back at school. And my husband is off this week, as always taking two weeks off at christmas, but i forgot that this meant his holiday didnt actually start until christmas day!
We have taken the decorations down and are back to "normal" so all clean and ready to go, i have worked between christmas and new year, so working this week shouldnt be such a shock, but the early morning school run will be!
Take care and have a healthy and happy 2009 x

24th Dec
merry christmas and happy new year to everyone, i got up early to get the cakes i had to do, so it is 9 30 and i have decorated three cakes, inc making the buttercream and ganache, yum.
I decided not to do us a christmas cake this year, we have been living off cut off cake and still have some so there wasnt much point in making one to decorate. Plus they both had one for school. Which was much enjoyed.
I am pleased with the way is work is going, i have most of the holiday off, i have one cake to do for the 29th and some to do just after new year, and wedding cakes for next month, and a christening cake lined up for February and new enquiries coming in.
So to wish all my customers and readers a healthy and happy new year.

Well i thought i had gone a bit quiet until i had to upload loads of pictures, although some are cake dummies for a shopping evening i did, and some were done for raffle prizes for those events. But even still.
I went to the big cake show at the Nec... and there was nothing really wow there, most people bring out something new and dazzling, but not this time, but i did still spend up.....
one thing being a new castle turret set, to save me keep making them, but you can ice and design them to your own needs, so i am going to have fun with that.
I have started making a few fimo clay models, and will continue with this and see if i can sell them as toppers on there own. It is firmer than icing so i need to get used to the differences, but the few samples i have done i am pleased with. Just need to photograph them in the right light!

I have been away celebrating my Husbands birthday, away to York then Manchester now back to reality.
I have been baking away fruit cakes..... so christmassy, sponges and lemon cakes for this week.
Not been in cake world, and a bit dispondent, but i guess that comes with all jobs,
I Have had some lovely feedback and put it on the blog as i don't always get to hear the result, well not often at all, so i assume all is ok, but it is nice to hear. I got a lovely message from the person that i did the dalek cake for too.

Wow what a week!
I worked Sunday evenigng as a cake was being picked up around 9 30 Monday and i am so glad i did as she was on the dot! I then had to make a cake from a commission that had come from Switzerland, her boyfriend is studying in Cambridge, she wanted a bench with the two of them sitting on it. All was well it was collected, and delivered, then i got lots of calls while i was out, so my phone was at home. She thought there was a problem as he hadnt received the cake, but all was well, he had checked at porters before it was delivered. I got a lovely thank you note after sending her a picture by email.
I then had to suss out how to make a Baileys cake, i asked a friend who had done one recently and i was right in assuming to add the Baileys instead of the water or milk i would have done, in the end the cake was chocolate, but i left the buttercream white, and torted the cake, so it looked like a gateau, so more Bailey's for birthday girl.
The next job was to prep some things for later in the week, and decide whether James was having a cake for school as well as for his bowling party, but he really wanted a dragon cake, and i always feel if i can't do for the children what i do for customers it isn't very fair. So i did him a cake to take to school to share with his friends, and have spent the time today doing his cake for Bowling.
The other cakes were good, and i did some mock ups for mini wedding cakes, for the lady having the christening cake, and she was really pleased, so will get in touch at the beginning of next year to book them in.
All in all a good week. As always with it's ups and downs, and sorting paper work etc... but think i am all caught up!
